Senior Jon Curry Picked up the win in goal.

The reigning Keuka College Athletes of the Week, junior Gino Marcello (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and sophomore Mark Butto (Rochester, N.Y./Schroeder), helped snapped Keuka’s four game losing streak with a 14-4 road win over the Hawks of Hilbert College on Wednesday.  

The Storm improve to 2-4 on the season while Hilbert slips to 4-2 overall.

Hilbert scored two of the games first three goals before Keuka netted three straight before the end of the first period to hold 4-2 lead.  The Storm added two more goals in the second period while holding the Hawks scoreless to go up by four (6-2) at halftime.

Hilbert again scored the first goal of the half but was followed by eight straight Keuka goals over the final two periods.  The Hawks tacked on one more goal in the final minute to make it a 14-4 final.

Keuka out-shot Hilbert 42-32 and finished with seven more ground balls (31-24).  Hilbert won the face-off battle (11-9). Read more

Baseball Falls 11-4 to St. John Fisher

Senior Jason Kirkum batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Keuka College baseball team fell on the road to the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College by a score of 11-4 on Wednesday despite being out-hit by just two (10-8).

The Storm slip to 0-3 on the year while Fisher improves to 9-4 overall.

The Cardinals got to Keuka starter Jeremy Pyszczynski (Alden, N.Y./St. Mary’s) early as they scored two runs in the first and six more in the second to take a commanding lead.  Fisher added another run in the fourth before the Storm were able to plate two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth.  Keuka would score its fourth run in the top of the ninth. Baseball Drops Season Opening Double Header to Ithaca

Sophomore Keith Prestano belted his second career home run.

The Keuka College baseball team lost its season-opening double header to the Bombers of Ithaca College on the road Tuesday with a 13-1 loss in game one and a 9-2 loss in the game two.  Ithaca improves to 6-6 on the year.

In game one, the Storm were out-hit 11-2 as they allowed a run in the first, four in the third inning, six in the fourth, and two more in the fifth.  The Storm’s lone run came on a solo home run from sophomore Keith Prestano (Bronx, N.Y./Xaverian) while Keuka’s other hit came from the bat of rookie Gavin Corbin (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) for his first collegiate hit.

Senior Jason Kirkum (Basom, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) suffered the loss on the hill for Keuka, allowing five earned runs while striking out four in 2.2 innings. Read more

Women’s Lax Drop First Game of Season in 13-12 Loss to Hartwick

Sophomore Molly Hogan collected 11 saves in the loss.

The Keuka College women’s lacrosse team allowed two late goals as they suffered a 13-12 loss to the visiting Hawks of Hartwick College on Tuesday.

The loss is Keuka’s first of the season as they now sit at 2-1 overall while Hartwick improves to 4-1 on the year.

The Storm scored three of the game’s first five goals to hold a 3-2 lead with half of the first half remaining.  The Hawks proceeded to score five of the next six goals to go up 7-4.  The Storm were able to score three goals in the final five minutes of the half, including a goal by senior Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) with one second remaining, to cut its deficit to 8-7 at the half. Men’s Lax Attackers Named Athletes of the Week

Despite suffering an 0-2 week, the Keuka men’s lacrosse team took home both of the Storm’s Athletes of the Week honors as sophomore Mark Butto (Rochester, N.Y./Schroeder) and junior Gino Marcello (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) both enjoyed solid weeks in the week ending March 26.

Butto, the team’s leading scorer through Keuka’s first five games (1-4), scored four goals while adding 10 ground balls in the two losses.  In a 7-5 loss to SUNY Oswego, he netted both of the Storm’s second period goals while also picking up two ground balls.  In Keuka’s 15-10 loss to NEAC rival SUNY Morrisville, Butto again went for two goals while leading the team with eight ground balls.  For the year he has a team-high eight goals and nine points.

Marcello, led the offense for the week with six goals and an assist.  Against the Lakers of SUNY Oswego, Marcello scored the game’s only two fourth period goals as he attempted to get the Storm back in the game.  Against the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville, Marcello led Keuka with four goals and an assist.  He netted two goals in each half and  is second on the team in scoring for the season with six goals, an assist, and seven points.
