Gravel, Tuggles Net Athletes of the Week

February 20, 2012

Sophomore Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) and junior Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) have been two of Keuka’s most consistent scoring threats during the 2011-12 basketball season, and following impressive weekend performances, Gravel and Tuggles were named Keuka College’s Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Gravel scored 17 points with three steals to help the Keuka women’s basketball team earn the No. 2 seed in the North Eastern Athletic Conference’s North Division with a 60-45 home win over Wells College Saturday on Senior Day.

Gravel reached double-figures for the 14th time in 19 games, and had her 11th game with 15-plus points vs. Wells. Gravel scored 11 first-half points as the Storm (16-5, 14-3 NEAC) jumped to a 31-15 halftime lead. It was the Storm’s eighth win in its last nine NEAC contests.

Heading into the postseason, Gravel leads the Storm in scoring average (13.8 points per game) and was also Keuka’s leading three-point threat, converting on 44 of 129 attempts (34.1 percent).

Keuka will host No. 3 SUNY Cobleskill (14-11, 10-7) in a first-round NEAC playoff game at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

Tuggles averaged 19 points, 5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game during an 0-2 week for the Keuka men’s basketball team.

Tuggles scored 17 points with six rebounds during Tuesday’s non-conference home loss vs. Alfred and added 21 points during Saturday’s season-ending setback to Wells College.

Facing the Express, Tuggles had only three points in the first half, but exploded for 18 second-half points. Tuggles scored Keuka’s first nine points of the half as the Storm scored 53 second-half points, its highest scoring half of the season.

Tuggles finished the season as the Storm’s second-leading scorer (13.7 ppg.) and led Keuka with 36 made ‘3s’.
