June 6, 2012

For the fourth straight year, Keuka's women's sports teams won the NEAC President's Cup while the men's teams placed sixth.

For the fifth straight year, Keuka's women's sports teams won the NEAC President's Cup while the men's teams placed sixth.

During the 2011-12 academic year, Keuka College claimed North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) postseason championships in women’s basketball and softball along with men’s lacrosse.

Women’s basketball made its fourth NCAA Division III appearance while softball qualified for the NCAA’s for the sixth straight season as the Green and Gold has established itself as a powerhouse in both women’s basketball and softball. The men’s lacrosse team also successfully defended its NEAC championship.

At the annual NEAC retreat, held in Clarks Summit, Pa., Keuka’s women’s sports teams claimed the NEAC’s annual President’s Cup as the top women’s sports program in the conference while Keuka’s men’s teams placed sixth out of 11 schools. It was the fifth straight year the women have won the President’s Cup.

Each President’s Cup is awarded based on each institution’s overall winning percentage from the past academic year, which is calculated through a points system that takes into account each school’s finish in the final regular season standings for each team sport and the championship finish for each individual sport sponsored within the NEAC.

Morrisville State took home the Men’s Cup for the first time. In the overall President’s Cup standings, SUNYIT finished first, with Penn State-Harrisburg in second and Keuka placing third  out of 13 institutions.

In the women’s standings, Keuka continued its recent dominance, tallying 48 out of a possible 65 points for a winning percentage of .738.  The Storm finished in the top four in six of the seven women’s sports they sponsor, which included a top finish in softball and second place finishes in both basketball and lacrosse.

In the men’s standings, Keuka tallied 30.5 points out of a possible 58 points for a winning percentage of .526. The highlights for Keuka included a second-place finish in the lacrosse standings and a fourth-place finish in soccer.
