Junior Stephanie Havens (Unadilla, NY/Unatego) scored her first goal of the season, but Keuka College’s women’s soccer team wasn’t able to overcome a two-goal deficit and fell at home, 2-1 to Penn State-Berks Sunday afternoon.

Senior Nicole Sharick (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) played a cross into the box, where Havens eventually got a foot on it, collected the ball and scored just 1:38 into the second half to pull the Storm (1-3, 1-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference) within 2-1.

Keuka had two good looks on goal in the final 22 minutes, but the Green and Gold wasn’t able to net the equalizer and lost its first conference game of the year.

Sophomore Marriah Gough (Oneida, NY/Stockbridge Valley) made six saves in the loss for the Storm.

The Nittany Lions (2-2, 2-0 NEAC) got on the scoreboard in the eighth minute when Sarah Conover collected a failed clear attempt and scored into the middle portion of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Gough made a nice save to deny Berks’ its second goal of the half. Conover and Meaghan Daly each fired shots on goal, but Gough punched away Conover’s blast and stopped Daly’s effort, too.

The Storm had its chances early in Sunday’s game with Berks, but Savannah Cramer turned away all four shots.

Junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) had a shot from 10 yards out that sailed high over the goal, and 40 seconds later, Sharick flicked a ball to Havens, who pushed her header shot just wide of goal.

Berks tacked on a second goal with 12:44 remaining in the half. Conover played a cross into Karly Shaffert, who scored to the near post.

After Havens’ goal, Keuka’s best chance at the tying score came when senior Sarah Capek (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) ripped a shot from in close that sailed high over the net.

The Green and Gold returns to action with a 12 p.m. clash at Wells College Saturday afternoon.
