Junior Taylor Smith (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) averaged 22 digs per match over five contests for the Keuka College women’s volleyball team as the Storm went 3-2 on the week, including 3-1 at the Hilbert College Invitational.

On Monday, Smith, who was named Keuka’s Female Athlete of the Week, added to her hardware when the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tabbed her as the Women’s Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.

Smith totaled 111 digs over five matches and averaged 6.17 digs per set as Keuka (7-3 overall) went 3-2, including a 3-1 effort during the Hilbert College Invitational, held Sept. 14 and 15 in Hamburg, N.Y.

Facing Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday night, Smith recorded 19 digs during the four-set loss, and she followed that up with 54 digs during Keuka’s two matches Friday night at Hilbert College. Smith recorded 22 digs during a four-set win over D’Youville College and added a season-best 32 digs during a four-set loss to Fredonia State.

The 32 digs surpassed her previous season-best total by nine digs and represented the highest output of Smith’s Keuka career, besting her 28-dig effort during a four-set loss against Hamilton College on Oct. 22, 2011.

On Saturday, as Keuka was sweeping Keystone (Pa.) College and Hilbert College, Smith recorded 17 digs during the win over Keystone and added 21 digs against Hilbert.

Smith currently ranks third in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) in digs (174) and is second in digs per set (4.83).

Keuka hits the road for the first of three NEAC crossover competitions this weekend. The Storm will face Penn State-Berks and the College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday and Lancaster Bible College Sunday during the two-day crossover competition at SUNY Cobleskill.
