Four different members of the Keuka College women’s tennis team recorded victories at both singles and doubles to spark the Storm to a season-opening, 8-1 win over Cazenovia College Monday afternoon in Cazenovia.

Junior Emily Knapsack (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery), senior Kara DeWitt (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) and freshmen Hailey Roth (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Heidi Van Buskirk (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each picked up wins at both singles and doubles as Keuka (1-0) swept the three doubles matches and went 5-1 in the six singles matches against Cazenovia (0-1).

It was the Wildcats’ first-ever intercollegiate tennis match.

DeWitt, who placed fourth last year in third singles at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) West Division conference tournament, recorded an 8-5 pro-set win at fourth singles and teamed with Van Buskirk on an 8-0 win at third doubles for the Green and Gold. Van Buskirk also posted a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles.

Knapsack rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win at first singles and teamed with Roth for an 8-2 win at first doubles. Roth, playing in her first collegiate tennis match, easily won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles.

Junior Chelsea Craine (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) breezed to an 8-0 win at sixth singles while junior Sarah Schneider (Rushville, NY/Marcus Whitman) and sophomore Danielle Delgatto (Naples, NY/Naples) picked up an 8-4 win at second doubles for the Green and Gold.

Schneider was the only Keuka student-athlete to drop her match, losing a back-and-forth third singles battle. Schneider dropped the first set, 6-0, roared back to claim the second set 7-6 (9-7) but ultimately fell in the super tiebreaker, 14-12.

The Storm returns to action with a 4 p.m. match Wednesday afternoon against Wells College in the home opener for Keuka.
