Women’s Tennis Improves to 2-0

Junior Emily Knapsack posted a win at both first singles and first doubles as Keuka's women's tennis team defeated Wells College Wednesday afternoon in the Storm's home opener.
Four different members of the Keuka College women’s tennis team recorded victories at both singles and doubles to spark the Storm to a convincing 8-1 win over Wells College Wednesday afternoon in the Storm’s home opener.
Senior Kara DeWitt (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes), juniors Emily Knapsack (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery), and Sarah Schneider (Rushville, NY/Marcus Whitman) and freshman Heidi Van Buskirk (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each picked up wins at both singles and doubles as Keuka (2-0) swept the three doubles matches and went 5-1 in the six singles matches against Wells (1-4).
Knapsack defeated Caitlyn Copfer at first singles, dropping the first set 6-4 before storming back with 6-4 and 10-4 wins to improve to 2-0 at first singles.
DeWitt and Van Buskirk each improved to 2-0 at singles play this year, with DeWitt handing Emma Martin a 6-2, 6-1 setback at fourth singles and Van Buskirk defeating Kailin Kucewicz 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles.
Schneider and sophomore Nikita Wilkins (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) each won their first singles matches of the season. Schneider defeated Kelly Pietruch, 6-2, 6-4 at third singles while Wilkins routed Britney DeSouza, 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles.
In doubles action, Knapsack and freshman Hailey Roth (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) defeated Copfer and Brittany Vanno, 8-6 at first doubles. Schneider and sophomore Danielle Delgatto (Naples, NY/Naples) handled Pietruch and Martin 8-6 at second doubles while Van Buskirk and Dewitt blanked Kucewicz and DeSouza, 8-0 at third doubles.
The Storm returns to action with a 4 p.m. non-conference clash with the University of Pitt-Bradford on Oct. 2.
