Women’s Tennis Holds Off Elmira

The Keuka College women’s team won four of the six singles matches to lift the Green and Gold to a 5-4 win over Elmira College Thursday afternoon at Keuka.
Junior Emily Knapsack (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) rallied from one set down at first singles, dropping the first set, 1-6, before rebounding with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Amy Schmidt as the Storm (3-1) went 4-2 in singles play and 1-2 in doubles action.
Freshman Hailey Roth (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) swept Melanie Walker, 6-0, 6-3 at second singles, junior Sarah Schneider (Rushville, NY/Marcus Whitman) recorded a 7-5, 6-0 win over Kayla Fitzgerald at third singles while sophomore Nikita Wilkins (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eva Bouchard at sixth singles for Keuka.
In doubles action, Knapsack and Roth picked up an 8-0 win over Schmidt and Walker at first doubles, but Schneider and sophomore Danielle Delgatto (Naples, NY/Naples) dropped an 8-2 decision at second doubles and sophomore Savannah Fuller (Philadelphia, NY/Indian River) and junior Chelsea Craine (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) fell 8-3 at third doubles.
Elmira falls to 5-6 on the year.
The Storm returns to action with a 1 p.m. non-conference clash with Daemen College on Saturday, Oct. 13, the final match of the fall portion of the schedule.
