Senior Nicole Sharick (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) etched her name atop the women’s soccer record books, becoming Keuka College’s all-time leader in goals scored during Sunday’s win over Wilson College.
On Monday, Sharick was honored by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) as its Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
On a day when Keuka honored its seniors, it was only appropriate that Sharick rewrote the record books as the Green and Gold’s all-time leading goal scorer.
For the first time in her illustrious career, Sharick scored four goals and added two assists (10 points), becoming Keuka’s all-time leader in goals scored during the Storm’s 8-0 win over Wilson College Sunday afternoon.
It was the most goals in a game by the Storm since a 9-0 throttling of Penn State-Abington on Oct. 31, 2009.
Sharick, a three-time North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) selection as a forward, upped her career total to 51 goals, and now has 17 goals on the year for the Storm (7-5, 7-3 NEAC). She is currently tied for fourth among all of Division III in goals per game (1.417).
With her seventh multi-goal game of the year, Sharick broke Nicole Bondellio’s old school-record of 50 goals, set when Bondellio played from 2004-07.
Sharick, who already was the Storm’s single-season goals leader with 17 during 2010, scored three times during a span of 18 minutes to break Bondellio’s record and tie the record for most goals in a season.
The play-making Sharick scored two goals with an assist during Saturday’s 5-0 home win over the College of St. Elizabeth, then had the most productive game of her career to break the record on Sunday.
Sharick set up the Storm’s first goal on a cross from the far side of the field, then pushed the lead to 3-0 in the ninth minute, dribbling through the defense and sending her shot into the far corner of the goal.
She set up the Storm’s fourth goal on a well-played cross in the 19th minute, then scored Keuka’s fifth goal of the half when she dribbled 25 yards through two defenders and pushed her shot high into the far side of the net.
Sharick then scored her second hat trick of the year, receiving a pass from junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) before dribbling through two defenders and scoring in the 38th minute.
Sharick’s record-setting goal came six minutes into the second half, when she dribbled past three defenders and scored from 12 yards out for a 7-0 lead.
Sharick has scored a goal in seven of the Storm’s 12 games, and every time she’s scored, she’s had at least two goals, including a three-goal gem during a 4-1 road win over Gallaudet University on Sept. 23.
