The Keuka College women’s basketball team has captured the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) postseason championship and qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament in four of the last six years.

Under first-year head coach Katie Marcella, the Storm returns nine student-athletes who helped Keuka compile a 19-6 record that included a 14-3 mark in the NEAC.

Marcella served as the Storm’s interim head coach for much of last year following Dave Sweet’s hip replacement surgery. Sweet stepped down in May as the school’s winningest coach after compiling an impressive 179-97 record (.649 winning percentage) in 12 years leading the Green and Gold.

Junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches), the MVP of the NEAC postseason tournament, and classmate Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney), a first-team All-NEAC guard, return to lead a deep and talented Storm squad that begins its quest for another NCAA appearance when it travels to Rochester for the two-day Onnie’s Classic at Nazareth College.

The Storm will open the 2012-13 season against Nazareth College at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17 before playing The College at Brockport at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18

Keuka returns to the Weed Physical Arts Center for three straight home games, Nov. 20 through Dec. 5. The Storm faces the University of Pitt-Bradford in their home opener, 6 p.m. on Nov. 20 before taking on Hilbert College at 6 p.m., Nov. 26.

Keuka, which has won three of the last six NEAC North regular-season championships, opens conference play with a 6 p.m. home game vs. Morrisville State on Dec. 5 before closing out the 2012 portion of the schedule on the road against SUNY Cobleskill on Dec. 8.

After taking a month off, the Green and Gold will open 2013 on the road against Penn State-Berks (Jan. 6) and Lancaster Bible College (Jan. 7) before hosting Gallaudet (Jan. 12), Penn State-Harrisburg (Jan. 13) and Wells College (Jan. 16).

Keuka travels to the College of St. Elizabeth (Jan. 20) and Cazenovia College (Jan. 23) before returning to Keuka Park for home games against SUNYIT (Jan. 26) and Cobleskill (Jan. 27).

Following a road game against Morrisville State on Jan. 30, the Storm has three straight home games: against Wilson College (Feb. 2), Penn State-Abington (Feb. 3) and Cazenovia (Feb. 6) before closing out the regular season at SUNYIT (Feb. 9), SUNY Geneseo (Feb. 12) and Wells (Feb. 16).

The annual NEAC postseason tournament runs Feb. 23-24, 2013.

Only Harrisburg, St. Elizabeth and Cobleskill handed the Storm conference losses during the 2011-12 season.

After suffering a 55-42 setback at Cobleskill on Jan. 29, the Storm went on a tear, winning nine straight games to claim the NEAC championship. Cardiac Keuka rallied from double-digit deficits in all three NEAC tournament games, highlighted by a thrilling 66-63 win over rival SUNYIT in the NEAC title game.

Trailing 37-22, the Storm went on a 19-2 run as Bandrowski buried a half-court heave and scored a career-high 30 points with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals to earn MVP honors.
