Sophomore Austin Gerber (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored his sixth goal of the season, but the Keuka College men’s soccer team couldn’t overcome a 3-0 deficit and fell at SUNYIT, 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Marcy, N.Y.

With the loss, the Storm (7-8, 5-5 North Eastern Athletic Conference) is eliminated from the upcoming NEAC postseason tournament.

Needing a victory over SUNYIT (9-7-1, 6-3-1) to punch their ticket to the postseason tournament, the Storm allowed a 13th minute goal to Luke Bogar, but kept the deficit at 1-0 heading into halftime.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 2-0 on a 30-yard blast from Matthew Wilday, then took a 3-0 lead when Wilday found Matt Arcidiacono outside of the left portion of the penalty box for a score in the 64th minute.

Keuka finally got on the scoreboard in the 84th minute when Gerber ripped home his direct kick, but the Storm couldn’t get any closer and suffered their first sub-.500 season since the 1999 squad went 7-10.

Freshman Preston Vick (Kendall, NY/Kendall) stopped five shots in the loss. Keuka was outshot 19-14, including 11-7 in the second half.

In a physical contest, SUNYIT was called for 17 fouls compared to just six for the Green and Gold.

This was the final contest for seniors Ron Burd (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), Reis Cunningham (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek), Frank Iacovangelo (Rochester, NY/Aquinas), John Mastrella (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), Kyle Rivera (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), Justin Ryan (Berkshire, NY/Newark Valley) and Nate Smith (Hilton, NY/Hilton).
