The Keuka College men’s soccer team placed three student-athletes on the year-ending All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) squads, as announced by the conference.

Seniors Nate Smith (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and John Mastrella (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) were named to the first-team All-NEAC while sophomore Austin Gerber (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) earned second-team All-NEAC honors.

Smith, who garnered all-conference honors for the fourth time in his career, led the Storm (7-8, 5-5 NEAC) in goals (10) and points (25) and was tied for the team lead in assists (5) to spark Keuka.

Smith tied for second in the conference among goal scorers, and he was second in both points scored and game-winning goals (4). He scored nine of his 10 goals against NEAC foes, including two-goal games in wins over Gallaudet (Sept. 23), Lancaster Bible (Sept. 28) and SUNY Cobleskill (Oct. 6).

The playmaking Smith had three two-goal games during a four-game stretch from Sept. 23 through Oct. 6, and scored a season-best four points on one goal and two assists during a 3-0 home win over Penn State-Berks on Sept. 9.

Smith finished his Keuka career ninth all-time in goals scored (25) and points (61).

Mastrella finished second on the Storm in goals scored (8) and tied for the team lead in assists (5) while scoring 21 points, good for second most on the team. The dynamic Mastrella also added two game-winning goals.

Mastrella, a three-time All-NEAC selection, exploded for a career-high four goals during a 4-2 home win over D’Youville College on Sept. 1 during the Keuka Lakefront Classic, and started his senior season red-hot, scoring seven goals with one assist in the Storm’s first five games.

The forward handed out a season-best two assists during a 5-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Oct. 6. He finished the season tied for second in the NEAC in assists and tied for sixth in both goals scored and points.

Mastrella capped his career by ranking eighth among Keuka’s goal-scorers (26) and 10th in points (61).

Gerber, a reigning first-team All-NEAC selection and the inaugural winner of the NEAC’s Rookie of the Year, scored six goals with one assist for 13 points to finish as Keuka’s third-best scorer in 2012.

Gerber recorded a goal in three straight games from Sept. 15-23, including netting two goals during a 6-3 road win over Gallaudet on Sept. 23.

The midfielder converted his only penalty kick attempt of the season during a 2-1 loss at Penn State-Harrisburg on Sept. 22, and added a game-winning goal during Keuka’s 5-0 home win over SUNY Cobleskill on Oct. 6.

Gerber did all of his damage during NEAC games, scoring all six goals with one assist against the Storm’s conference rivals, including a goal against SUNYIT during the regular-season finale.
