Senior Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) scored 18 points with eight rebounds, but a late 10-0 run sent the Keuka College men’s basketball team to a 73-62 defeat vs. Kenyon College Saturday afternoon in the consolation of the Gettysburg (Pa.) College Tip-Off Tournament.

Sophomores Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) and Adam Starks (Wellsville, NY/Andover) each added 10 points while Hixson also snared five rebounds for the Green and Gold.

Sophomore Brandon Franklin (DeWitt, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) made a layup, two of his eight points, to pull the Storm (0-2) within 60-58 with 5:08 remaining. But Kenyon (1-1) answered with a 10-0 spurt to seize control, 70-58, and held on for the win.

Franklin, senior Conor Boyer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) and sophomore Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) each grabbed five rebounds in the loss for Keuka, which shot better than Kenyon (42 percent to 34.9 percent), but committed 24 turnovers to just 13 for Kenyon.

Starks and Hixson both had baskets as Keuka took an early 4-3 lead before Kenyon used a 13-8 spurt to take a 12-6 lead with 11:22 remaining in the opening half.

The deficit grew to 36-25 late in the half before sophomore Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) buried a trey and Tuggles converted a three-point play to trim the lead to 36-31, but Kenyon took a 38-31 lead into halftime.

The Storm started the second on a 12-4 run as Hixson scored six points, Starks had four and Tuggles made a pair of free throws to pull Keuka within 44-43. Tuggles then connected on a ‘3’ to tie the score at 46, but Kenyon maintained its lead, which grew to 58-52 with 6:28 remaining.

Franklin hit two jumpers sandwiched around a pair of free throws from Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) to slice the deficit to 60-58 with 5:08 remaining, but Kenyon made 8 of 10 at the free throw line during the 10-0 run to clinch the win.

Tuggles was named to the All-Tournament team, along with Tournament MVP Jason Rosenberg (Rowan), Brendan Cox (Rowan), Rich McNamara (Rowan), Brian Lebowitz (Kenyon) and Alex Zurn (Gettysburg).

Lebowitz scored 28 points with eight rebounds and Ikenna Nwadibia added 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for Kenyon.
