Bandrowski, Tuggles Named Keuka’s Athletes of the Week

Junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) and senior Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) each earned All-Tournament team honors during the opening weekend of the basketball season.

On Monday, Bandrowski and Tuggles were honored as Keuka College’s Athletes of the Week.

Jessica-Bandrowski-headshotBandrowski scored 37 points with 8 steals and 6 rebounds as the Keuka College women’s basketball team kicked off the 2012-13 season with a split at the Onnie’s Classic at Nazareth College.

Bandrowski, a second-team All-NEAC selection as a sophomore, scored 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting during a 58-55 loss vs. host Nazareth on Saturday. She was 2-for-3 on three-pointers and added four steals and three rebounds for the Storm.

During a 9-0 run to start the game, Bandrowski made a layup and drilled a ‘3’ during the early going as the Green and Gold held the lead for the first 30 minutes, taking a 25-19 edge into halftime that grew to 37-25 four minutes into the second half.

Facing The College at Brockport on Sunday, Bandrowski scored a game-high 20 points with 4 steals and 3 rebounds as the Storm (1-1) used a crucial 15-6 second half spurt to pull away for their first win of the season.

Bandrowski shot 8-for-12 from the field and was 2-for-3 on three-pointers in the win over the Golden Eagles. Bandrowski was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 18.5 points, 4 steals and 3 rebounds per game while shooting 68.2 percent from the field over the two days.

Tuggles also earned All-Tournament team honors after scoring 34 points with 10 rebounds and 4 steals during the Storm’s two games at the Gettysburg (Pa.) College Tip-Off Tournament.

Teddy-Tuggles-HeadshotTuggles, a four-year member of the Storm (0-2), scored a game-high 16 points with 4 steals and 2 rebounds, but the Keuka College men’s basketball team suffered a 60-39 setback to Gettysburg in the opener. Tuggles scored eight points in both halves and connected on 4 of 8 three-pointers in the season opener.

Facing Kenyon College in the consolation game, Tuggles once again led the Green and Gold in scoring (18 points) and snared eight rebounds, but a late 10-0 run sent the Storm to a 73-62 defeat.

The Keuka deficit grew to 36-25 late in the first half before sophomore Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) buried a trey and Tuggles converted a three-point play to trim the lead to 36-31, but Kenyon took a 38-31 lead into halftime.

The Storm started the second on a 12-4 run as sophomore Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) scored six points, classmate Adam Starks (Wellsville, NY/Andover) had four points and Tuggles made a pair of free throws to pull Keuka within 44-43. Tuggles then connected on a ‘3’ to tie the score at 46, but Kenyon maintained its lead, which grew to 58-52 with 6:28 remaining.

In the loss, Tuggles was a perfect 11-for-11 at the free throw line.

The basketball teams have their home openers Tuesday night, with the women hosting Pitt-Bradford at 6 p.m., followed by the men hosting RIT at 8 p.m.
