Nicole Sharick Named 3rd Team All-Region
December 7, 2012
Senior Nicole Sharick (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) rewrote the Keuka College women’s soccer record book this fall, smashing the school record for goals in a season and a career while equaling the most points in a career.
Sharick’s stellar play also garnered her third-team All-East Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Sharick’s head coach, Jamie Burke, said it is the first time a Storm student-athlete has earned All-Region honors.
The playmaking forward, who also earned first-team All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), had one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory to earn her fourth all-conference selection of her illustrious career.
Sharick led the NEAC with 22 goals and 49 points and shattered the Keuka record for career goals by six. She also equaled Nicole Bondellio’s (2004-07) record for career points (139).
Sharick finished the season second in the country among Division III players in goals per game (1.47) as she recorded nine multi-goal games while leading Keuka (8-7, 8-4 NEAC) to the No. 6 seed in the NEAC postseason tournament.
“It’s a pretty cool accomplishment for Nicole and this is definitely something she deserved with the numbers she put up this year.” said Burke, who completed her seventh season leading the Green and Gold.
“It’s nice to see we can get recognition for her and for our conference. The coaches that voted for her thought highly of her. … This honor is one of the highlights for Nicole and it makes her feel better about how her career ended. Breaking the school record for goals, both single season and career, was huge, and then she tied the school’s points record as well. She leaves on a high note and for her, this is something she feels great about.”
Sharick scored a goal in nine of the Storm’s 15 games, and every time she scored, she recorded at least two goals, including a three-goal gem during a 4-1 road win over Gallaudet University (Sept. 23), and a hat trick during a 6-5, overtime setback at SUNYIT (Oct. 27). Sharick also broke her own mark for most goals in a season by five goals.
The dynamic Sharick scored a goal in the last six games (5-1 record) and added all five of her assists during the Storm’s final five games of the regular season.
She accumulated 15 goals during that stretch, including an impressive four goals and two assists (10 points) during a Senior Day win over Wilson College on Oct. 14, when Sharick shattered the Keuka career scoring record. Sharick added four game-winning goals and did all of her scoring damage against NEAC competition as the Green and Gold clinched a return spot in the postseason tournament.
