Mouzon, Boyer Named Athletes of the Week
January 7, 2013
Seniors Mariah Mouzon (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) and Conor Boyer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) each registered double-doubles in Keuka’s College’s first basketball games of 2013.
On Monday, Mouzon and Boyer were selected as Keuka College’s Athletes of the Week.
Mouzon posted her second double-double of the year to lead the women’s basketball team to its sixth straight win Sunday afternoon.
Mouzon, a forward, scored 17 points and snared 14 rebounds to lead the Storm (6-1, 3-0 NEAC) to a 72-66 come-from-behind win over Penn State-Berks in Keuka’s first game of 2013.
Mouzon connected on 7 of 12 shots from the floor and snagged six offensive rebounds and eight defensive boards to lead the Storm. She registered season-highs in points and rebounds.
Keuka trailed 35-24 before closing the first half on a 5-0 run. An 8-1 run to open the second put Keuka ahead 37-36, and neither team led by more than three until Keuka went on an 11-3 run, capped by a Mouzon layup for a 63-54 lead with 1:55 left.
For the season, Mouzon is averaging 11.9 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game.
Boyer also posted his second double-double of the season, but Keuka’s men’s basketball team fell to Penn State-Berks 63-58 Sunday in Reading, Pa.
Boyer scored 14 points on 7-for-12 shooting with 10 rebounds for Keuka (3-7, 2-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference), which lost for the first time in three NEAC contests.
The Nittany Lions took a 25-15 lead in the first half before the Storm answered with a 19-7 run bridging the two halves to take a 34-29 lead with 16:37 remaining. Boyer scored eight points during the run for Keuka.
The scoring output was a season-best for Boyer, while the 10 rebounds were his second-most this year, trailing only the 13 he collected during a loss at Hartwick College on Nov. 30.
For the season, Boyer is averaging 6.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, the second-highest total on the Storm.
Keuka is on the road for a doubleheader with Lancaster Bible College today. The men then have a 7 p.m. road clash at Houghton College Wednesday night before both teams return home to host Gallaudet University at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
