Win Streak Snapped For Women’s Hoops

Senior Mariah Mouzon (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) recorded her second straight double-double, but the Keuka College women’s basketball team saw its six-game win streak snapped Monday afternoon in a 58-50 loss to Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pa.

Mouzon scored 11 points with 11 rebounds and junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) added 16 points, 5 assists and 5 steals, but the Storm (6-2, 3-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference) lost after the Chargers (8-2, 4-1) closed out the game on a 12-4 run.

Junior Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) added eight points and eight rebounds while classmate Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) scored eight points, but the Green and Gold committed 27 turnovers.

In a sluggish first half, neither team shot the ball well. Keuka connected on only 19.2 percent of its shots (5-for-26) while Lancaster shot 23.3 percent (7-for-30) in taking a 17-15 halftime lead.

In a high scoring second half (76 combined points), the Green and Gold started on a 15-5 run as Bandrowski scored Keuka’s first five points of the half and Mouzon made three layups.

Senior Montana McDonald (Romulus, NY/Romulus) made a pair of free throws and sophomore Erica Pendrak (Utica, NY/NY Mills) hit a jumper for a 30-22 lead with 13:01 remaining.

Keuka, which led by as much as eight points in the second half, held the lead until there was 3:15 left to play when Aubrey Folger made a layup for a 46-45 lead.

Gravel hit 1 of 2 free throws to tie the score, but Lancaster made its last seven free throws to win for the third straight time.

Bandrowski scored 10 points and Mouzon added eight points in the second half for Keuka. The Chargers were led by Lauren Heliger’s 18 points and Folger’s 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals.

The Storm hosts Gallaudet University at 1 p.m. Saturday, the first of three straight home games.
