Chamberlain, Tuggles Net Athletes of the Week
Sophomore forward Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) posted back-to-back career games as Keuka’s women’s basketball team capped a 3-0 week with wins over Wilson College and Penn State-Abington. Junior Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) averaged 16.5 points and seven rebounds per game over two contests for the Keuka’s men’s basketball team.
On Monday, Chamberlain and Tuggles were named Keuka’s Female and Male Athletes of the Week.
Chamberlain recorded her first career double-double during Saturday’s 70-39 win at Wilson College, setting career-bests in points (16) and rebounds (16) while making 7 of 10 shots (70 percent) in just 22 minutes. The second-year member of the Storm scored 10 first-half points and added six in the second half to easily surpass her previous career-high of 11 points, set during a Jan. 8 win over Penn State-Berks.
Facing Abington, Chamberlain scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Storm (13-5, 11-3 NEAC) won 65-51 Sunday afternoon in Abington, PA. Chamberlain shot 8-for-12 (75 percent) from the floor as the Storm picked up its fifth NEAC win in its last six games. Chamberlain’s 75-percent shooting performance was also a career-best.
Chamberlain, who scored 59 points over Keuka’s first 14 games, scored 37 points over the weekend as the Storm remained in second place in the NEAC North Division with three conference games remaining. The top three teams in each division advance into the NEAC postseason tournament, which runs Feb. 21-26.
For the season, Chamberlain is averaging 5.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Tuggles averaged 16.5 points, 7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game over two contests, but the Storm went 0-2 on the week, losing to first-place Morrisville State and Penn State-Abington.
Tuggles scored 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting (60 percent) and grabbed six rebounds with two steals during Sunday’s 95-78 setback at Penn State-Abington. Earlier in the week, hosting Morrisville, Tuggles scored nine points with a team-high eight rebounds during an 83-53 loss.
For the season, Tuggles leads Keuka (5-14, 5-7 NEAC) in scoring average (14.1 ppg.) and assists (2.3 apg.) and is second in steals (1.1 spg.).
