Baseball Drops Two to Penn State-Abington

Sophomore Gavin Corbin (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Game One while junior Keith Prestano (Queens, NY/Xaverian) smashed a two-run triple in Game Two, but Keuka’s baseball team suffered a sweep to Penn State-Abington Saturday afternoon on Kuhl Field.
The Storm (2-9, 2-2 North Eastern Athletic Conference) dropped Game One, 20-3, and Game Two, 9-3.
Abington (16-14, 4-2 NEAC) struck for three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a commanding 15-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Corbin had two hits while seniors Justin Citronnelli (Manhattan, NY/Mt. St. Michael) and Pete Venuti (Lakeland, NY/Solvay) and freshmen Thomas Drumm (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Joey Bernabei (Uniontown, OH/Lake) each added base hits for Keuka.
Pat Moran and Mike Kerns each had three RBI for Abington, which had nine different players record an RBI.
In the second game, senior Anthony Zaia (Phoenix, NY/John C. Birdlebough) pitched well in the first four innings, allowing only two runs until the Nittany Lions struck for seven runs in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead.
Keuka, which was held without a hit by starter Brian Camp over the first four innings, finally broke through in the sixth. Freshman Jon Borchert (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington) lined a single off Camp’s heel for the Storm’s first hit in the bottom of the fifth.
Prestano got the Storm on the board with a two-run double to deep right field in the sixth, and senior Michael Hutchings (Auburn, NY/Auburn) had an RBI groundout to finish the scoring.
Keuka returns to action with a 2 p.m. home doubleheader Tuesday afternoon against Penn State-Berks.
