Baseball Falls to Swarthmore
Freshman Joey Bernabei (Uniontown, OH/Lake), freshman Dylan Thomas (Kent, OH/Theodore Roosevelt) and senior Michael Hutchings (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each had two hits and an RBI while senior Ben Przepiora (Solvay, NY/Solvay) added an RBI, but Keuka College’s baseball team suffered a 20-4 setback Monday afternoon against Swarthmore (PA.) College.
Keuka (1-3) fell behind 4-0 after the first inning and trailed 14-0 heading into the top of the fourth.
Przepiora smacked an RBI double and Bernabei added an RBI on a well-placed bunt single to pull the Storm within 14-2 in its half of the fourth, but Keuka could draw no closer.
Hutchings drove in the final Keuka run on a triple in the top of the ninth that plated Bernabei, who had reached after being hit by a pitch. Eight Keuka players recorded at least one hit in the non-conference loss to Swarthmore (14-4).
Michael Cameron went 4-for-5 with five RBI while Tim Kwilos and Rory McTear each drove in three runs for Swarthmore.
The Storm will play North Eastern Athletic Conference rival Lancaster Bible College at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the continuation of Saturday’s doubleheader. Keuka picked up its first win of the season, 9-8, in the first game against Lancaster Bible.
