Dave Sweet begins his twelfth season as the head coach of the women’s basketball team during the 2011-12 season, and sports an impressive overall record of 175-96 (a .646 winning percentage) as the Storm’s head coach.

Under Sweet’s watchful eye, the Storm enjoyed a magical 2010-11 season, winning the second-most games in school history (24) while earning the program’s third trip to the NCAA Division III tournament. Keuka posted a 24-3 record and qualified for the NCAA tournament before falling to William Paterson (NJ) University in the first round of the NCAA’s during the 2010-11 season. One of the biggest highlights during the season was a 50-46 win over rival Gallaudet University in the North Eastern Athletic Conference championship game. Keuka had twice suffered losses to the Bison during the regular season before attaining a measure of revenge in the NEAC title game.

During the 2009-10 season, Sweet guided Keuka to an 18-8 record while winning the NEAC regular season.

Sweet guided the Storm to its sixth NEAC title in seven years while also reeling off a 15-game winning streak to finish with a 17-8 mark in 2008-09.  The squad also played in its second NCAA Tournament in the past three seasons.

In 2007-08, Sweet guided the Storm to a 14-10 overall record (13-3 NEAC) while finishing in second place in the conference.

In 2006-07, Sweet led Keuka to an 18-8 overall mark while winning a fourth straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament championship.  Sweet, named NEAC Coach of the Year, also led the Storm to its first-ever NCAA Tournament.

In 2005-06, Sweet guided the Storm to its third straight NEAC tournament championship while posting a 16-10 record and a 12-3 conference mark.  The Storm were also selected to play in the ECAC Upstate Tournament.

He has held the director of athletics position since joining the Keuka staff in 1984 and coached the men’s basketball squad from 1985-2000, compiling a 203-168 record. Prior to the advent of the 2000-01 academic year, he was named women’s hoop coach and volleyball coach.  Sweet held the women’s volleyball head coach position from 2000-05 leading the Storm to a 100-69 mark.  He will resume the position of head volleyball coach beginning in the fall of 2010.

Sweet, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Cleary College (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan, was a decorated high school athlete. A letter-winner in nine sports, he was an all-league football, basketball and track performer and was team MVP in all three sports his senior year. He was also named to the all-state football squad.

Sweet started his coaching career in the Michigan high schools ranks, leading both Monroe Jefferson High School and Napoleon High School.  He later served as an assistant basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University.

Sweet lives in Penn Yan, N.Y. with his wife Sharon, a Keuka graduate and high school science teacher at Newark High School.
