Katie Marcella enters her second season as the head men’s and women’s cross country coach and led both squads to a sixth place finish at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships last fall.
Marcella is also the Storm’s assistant women’s basketball coach, a roll that she has held for two seasons now. She helped Dave Sweet’s hoops squad go 18-8 and win the NEAC regular season crown in 2009-10. The year before she helped the team to a 17-8 overall record including a 15-game winning streak, a NEAC Tournament championship, and Keuka’s second trip to the NCAA Tournament in the past three seasons.
Marcella is a 2007 graduate of SUNY Brockport, where she starred on the basketball court before earning her degree in physical education.
She was a four-year starter and two-time captain for Brockport while being named to the ALL-SUNYAC second team as a junior and first team as a senior. She amassed 987 points and would have reached the 1,000 point milestone if not for a torn ACL. She finished her career third all-time in steals and 3-pointers, sixth all-time in rebounding, and seventh in 3-point percentage. Marcella was also named to the JPMorgan Chase All-Tournament first team her senior year.
Marcella attended Guilderland High School and was a three-sport star. She lettered five times in track and field and cross country and three times in basketball. She held the long jump record at her school upon graduating and was named her school’s Female Athlete of the Year as a senior.
Marcella is pursuing a master’s degree in athletic administration at Brockport.
