Latimer, Beebe Spark Men’s Lax Past Elmira

Sophomore Matt Beebe (Syracuse, NY/LaFayette) scored a career-high nine points on four goals with five assists while senior Connor Latimer (Whitby, Ont./Father Leo J. Austin) added six goals to spark the Keuka College men's lacrosse team to a 17-6 win over Elmira College Saturday afternoon in Elmira, N.Y.

Junior Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) scored six points on four assists with two goals while classmate James Voigt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) had two goals with two assists and junior Derek Pfeiffer (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) tallied two goals with an assist as Keuka (2-0) picked up its 14th straight win dating to last year.

Freshman Jacob Wood (Marietta, NY/Auburn) allowed three goals over the first three quarters and made 11 saves to earn his first collegiate win in goal while junior Eric Saltrelli (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) added nine saves for the Green and Gold, who defeated their Empire 8 rivals for the second straight year.

The Storm jumped all over the Eagles (0-2), scoring eight first-quarter goals as Latimer, Beebe, Pfeiffer and Voigt each scored twice during the opening stanza. Voigt and Latimer each had man-up goals during the stretch as Keuka took control early and never relinquished the lead.

The Storm closed out the first quarter with five goals over the final 3 minutes and 11 seconds, and extended their lead to 10-0 on goals from Beebe and Latimer 21 seconds into the second quarter.

The Green and Gold led 11-1 at halftime and 17-3 after Latimer scored three straight goals and Gray and senior Kenny Cannon (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) each added goals early in the fourth quarter.

Keuka won 16 of 27 faceoffs as senior Zachary Koczent (Geneva, NY/Geneva) went 13 for 22 on faceoffs and freshman Matt Mahalick (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) won 3 of 4 faceoffs.

Cannon had six groundballs, Koczent had four and Saltrelli added three groundballs for the Storm.

Keuka travels to The College at Brockport for a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday before hosting Alfred University at 2 p.m. March 22 in the Storm's home opener.
