Men’s Lax Wins NEAC Opener

Sophomore Matt Beebe (Syracuse, NY/LaFayette) scored three goals with one assist and senior Connor Latimer (Whitby, Ont./Father Leo J. Austin) added two goals with three assists as the Keuka College men's lacrosse remained perfect with a 16-3 win over Cazenovia College Saturday at Penn Yan Academy in Penn Yan, N.Y.

Juniors Cory Gray (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) and James Voigt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) each added three goals while freshman Jordan Growney (Fairport, NY/Fairport) added two goals and sophomore Brendan King (Auburn, NY/Auburn) handed out two assists for the Storm (5-0, 1-0 NEAC), who prevailed in their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener.

Freshman Jamie Kuppel (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) added a goal and an assist, while senior Kenny Cannon (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) had six groundballs and classmate Zachary Koczent (Geneva, NY/Geneva) collected five groundballs as Keuka enjoyed a 36-27 edge in groundballs.

Seniors Mike Donals (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Nick Judge (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) each added goals for the Green and Gold.

Junior Eric Saltrelli (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) improved to 4-0 after making five saves in 45 minutes of action.

Gray scored three times, including a man-up tally, Voigt added a pair of goals and Judge scored as the Storm took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Storm's defense, led by senior Scott Miller (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), junior Marc Sacco (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) and freshmen Trevor Jones (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) and Dustin Springer (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) blanked the Wildcats (3-2, 0-2 NEAC) for the first 18 minutes and 37 seconds.

Keuka took a 9-1 lead into halftime and outscored Cazenovia 7-2 in the second half to remain undefeated.

The Storm host NEAC rival Wells College in a 2:30 p.m. clash Sunday afternoon at Penn Yan Academy.
