Women’s Lax Rolls Past Kalamazoo

Senior Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored nine points on eight assists and one goal and classmate Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) set a season-high with five goals as the Keuka College women's lacrosse team defeated Kalamazoo (Mich.) College 17-2 Saturday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Bonafede, Keuka's all-time leader in points (230) and assists (150) had five first-half assists and three second-half assists while Smith notched four first-half goals to lift the Storm (3-2), who led 9-2 at halftime and blanked the Hornets (2-4) for the final 35 minutes and 59 seconds.

Smith won 12 draw controls and added nine groundballs while freshman Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) scored a career-high three goals for the Green and Gold.

Senior Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) added two goals with one assist, junior Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) scored two goals as did freshman Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes).

Junior Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) and sophomore Samantha Staino (Brockport, NY/Brockport) each added a goal and senior Korie Fitzgerald (Vestal, NY/Vestal) made four saves in the win for Keuka.

Bruno and Smith each scored two goals while Arancio added a tally as the Storm took a 5-0 lead with 19:01 remaining in the opening half.

Kalamazoo got on the board with 17:13 remaining in the half, but Smith scored twice and Bruno and Hudson added goals to stake the Storm to a 9-1 lead with 11:37 remaining.

The Storm are home for a five-game stretch, beginning with Wednesday's 4 p.m., non-conference clash with Alfred University. Keuka also hosts Cazenovia (April 5), Morrisville State (April 6), Lancaster Bible College (April 12) and Wilson College (April 13) during the homestand.
