Women’s Lax Rolls On Senior Day

All 13 student-athletes who played in the field scored a goal to power the Keuka College women's lacrosse team to a 20-1 win over Wilson (Pa.) College Sunday on Senior Day at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Senior Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) scored three goals with two assists, classmate Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) added a goal with two assists and senior Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) added a goal as the Storm (8-2, 4-0 NEAC) set a season-high for goals in a game.

Senior Korie Fitzgerald (Vestal, NY/Vestal) made one save to improve to 8-2 on the year.

Smith had an all-around solid game, winning 13 draw controls, collecting 13 groundballs and causing 7 turnovers. She equaled her season-high for draw controls and caused turnovers and shattered her season-best for groundballs in the win.

Freshman Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) scored a career-high five points on three goals with two assists while classmate Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) set a career-high with four points on two goals with two assists for the Green and Gold.

Sophomore Samantha Staino (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and junior Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) each added two goals while eight other student-athletes added a goal in the win.

Arancio, Bonafede, juniors Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) and Anna Patton (Newark, NY/Newark) each added goals, as did freshmen Maura Gosson (Syracuse, NY/Marcellus), Samantha Peacock (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) and Taylor Willsey (Mexico, NY/Mexico).

It was the first collegiate goal for Peacock, who played some midfield and also played 20 minutes and 15 seconds of shutout lacrosse in goal.

At halftime, Arancio, Bonafede, Fitzgerald and Smith were honored for their commitment to the women's lacrosse program as the Storm have gone 43-10 in their four years on campus.

Twelve different student-athletes scored goals as the Green and Gold jumped out to a 13-0 lead with 6:25 remaining in the opening half. Hudson scored twice and Smith added two goals with an assist during the run.

Nicole Melanson scored on a free-position shot with 5:06 remaining in the first half to get the Phoenix (0-8, 0-6 NEAC) on the board. The goal snapped Keuka College's scoreless streak at 105:54 dating back to a 14-6 win over Morrisville State April 6.

The Storm travel to the College of St. Elizabeth (N.J.) for a 4 p.m. clash Friday before traveling to Penn State-Abington for a 1 p.m. clash Saturday afternoon.
